Junior School
Avenue of Virtues
To
coincide with Schools Tree Day, Tenison Woods College took
the opportunity to create a Junior School Avenue of
Virtues. This avenue of virtues enabled each class to
select a virtue that is central to our Christian value
system and plant a tree with their virtue as a visible
reminder of what’s important to us at Tenison Woods
College. This Junior School activity took place with the
assistance of Emma Richardson from Conboys Nursery who
informed the children of the best way to plant and look
after their tree.
Each tree has been planted alongside a plaque with the
class’ selected virtue engraved. The wood used for these
plaques is jarrah, over 100 years old and taken from the old
decking of the Moorak building, the first building on
campus.
The Junior School Avenue of Virtues is a visual reminder to
students to live the best life we can as human beings in
society (Aristotle). Each class that planted a
tree is responsible for the care of it, ensuring it is
watered, looked after. The Junior School SRC will be
looking for children using these virtues in the playground,
at which stage they will be presented with a certificate.
About the Virtues
The first seven virtues are the main virtues of the Catholic
Church. The second three are virtues shown by Blessed Mary
MacKillop. The remaining virtues are from the Marist and
Mercy traditions. They are a reminder for children and
adults alike of what is important for us at Tenison Woods
College, what we strive to do each day that sets us apart as
a Catholic school - living, believing, celebrating,
witnessing and actioning faith.
