Music Is
Fun
The screams were
deafening when Adelaide based band ‘Music is Fun’ hit centre
stage last week, gaining a whole new legion of fans in Mount
Gambier during its regional tour.
Hundreads of
excited young music fans converged on Tenison Woods College
for an afternoon of music and dance when the seven piece
band, which included former Old Scholar Adrian Holmes
performed for over 500 Junior Primary students.
From songs about
losing your hairbrush, to banana phones to songs by the
Foofighters, students were treated to an energetic, fun
filled show of well known songs delighting students and
teachers alike.
From the front
of the miniature mosh pit, Tenison Woods Reception student
Mitchell Harrold had high expectations of the afternoon
event, comparing the 90 minute concert to the multi million
dollar production, Disney on Ice.
“It was great
fun and we got to dance”
“My favourite
song was We Built This City” Mitchell said.
Established more
than 25 years ago, the Music is Fun band has toured
extensively throughout South Australia, Victoria and
Canberra and in the past eight years alone has performed in
more than 700 schools to more than 190,000 children.

In the week
leading up to the show students and staff received a play
list, prepared dances and learnt solos allowing them to
fully interact with the music and enjoyment that the
performers bring.
Tenison Woods
College Music Coordinator Beth Creedy said the concert was a
great success due to the musicality and energy of the
performers and their ability to relate to the students.
“The students
have a fantastic musical experience mixed in with so much
fun that they don’t even realise they are learning.“
Throughout the
afternoon of fun and frivolity students were also educated
about frontline instruments, rhythm section instruments,
music styles and the importance of working as a musical
team.
The use of
characters, puppets and colourful props encouraged maximum
audience participation, while promoting a positive attitude
to music and life.
“They learn that
the Arts are an enjoyable part of adults and childrens
lives, interact positively with musicians and see the
possibilities that music offers,” Mrs Creedy said.
