National Schools Tree Day

Young
green thumbs from across the South East will put down their
pens and paper and head to the great outdoors for National
Schools Tree Day on Friday 30 July.
Inspiring
students to grow their environmental education in a fun and
practical setting, National Schools Tree Day is part of
National Tree Day and will see over 200,000 students from
across the country take part.
A team of
tiny environmentalists armed with shovels from Tenison Woods
College will be among those getting involved planting native
trees around the school grounds.
The team
from Noel Barr Toyota, who are all too familiar with getting
their hands dirty with grease and oil, and will be rolling
up their sleeves in support of Toyota’s involvement in
Planet Ark’s National Tree Day.
The
Toyota team and students from the College will join forces
to have a positive impact on the environment and leading the
way for the Tree Day initiative in the Limestone Coast.
Spokeswoman for Planet Ark, Rebecca Gilling said the
initiative with Planet Ark, Toyota and its Dealer Network
and Tenison Woods College was a simple and practical way for
everyone young and old to give back to the environment and
local community.
“The
future of our planet really lies in the hands of our
children so getting them outdoors and involving them in a
fun and simple activity such as planting a tree, will
hopefully transpire into a life filled with positive
environmental actions.”
“National
Tree Day brings communities together to learn, grow and care
for Australia’s unique environment and is a great
opportunity for everyone to experience the wonders of our
natural surroundings."
Dealer
Principal, Noel Barr said his team was proud to participate
in the National Tree Day initiative.
“Toyota
has been a proud supporter of National Tree Day for the past
11 years because we genuinely care about the environment.”
“Planting
a tree is a simple way for the community to do their bit for
the environment.”
“Trees
combat the greenhouse effect and slow the effects of global
warming. If we all plant a tree think of the difference we
can make,” he said.
“National
Tree Day is an excellent way to bring our local community
together here in Mount Gambier, to plant trees and give
something back to the environment.”
As
Australia’s biggest community tree planting event, National
Tree Day and Schools Tree Day are responsible for the
planting of more than 15 million native trees and shrubs by
approximately two million volunteers over the years.
The City
Council in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier
Lakes, are also getting behind the event and will be
revegetating sections of the Valley Lake Wildlife Park on
Sunday 1st August from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
A
barbeque lunch will also be provided by council and Rotary
Club of Mount Gambier Lakes for all participants.
Those who
wish to be involved are invited to register their interest
with Drew Laslett of Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Lakes and
Planet Ark Spokesperson on 87351126 or 0428 844 460.
