Year 12 Results 2010
.................................................
With the release of this year’s South Australian Certificate
results in the mail and online, it is now decision time for
hundreds of Year 12 students across the South East.
After 13 years of schooling, students face the looming
decisions between further education, the workforce or
perhaps a gap year for a 'well-earned rest'.
Year 12 students across the South East have made it a year
to remember and are celebrating a successful 2010. Students
from the region exceeded expectations achieving great
results in the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
Tenison Woods College graduate Riana Samuel was named the
College DUX for achieving the highest Australian Tertiary
Admission Rank (ATAR), placing her in the top 1% of the
state.
Riana’s
results include an ATAR of 99.35 across six Year 12 subjects
with ‘A’s’ in English Communications, Mathematical Studies,
Specialist Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry as well as a
perfect score for Physics.
10 students (or 14 % of the Year 12 contingent) achieved an
ATAR above 90 placing them in the top 10% of the state.
Students who achieved an ATAR of 90 or greater were:-

A further 19 students (or 27% of the Year 12 contingent)
gained an ATAR above 80 placing them in the top 20% of the
state.
Out of all the subjects completed, 25% of all grades gained
were an ‘A’ and 64% of all grades were an ‘A’ or ‘B’,
placing 41% of graduates in the top 20% of the state.
Three students attained straight A’s for all five subjects
completed.
Tenison Woods College principal Pam Ronan described the
results as extremely pleasing and said they reflect the
student’s hard work and commitment.
“We are thrilled by the release of the Year 12 results and
commend all students and teachers on their excellent work
this year.”
“A strong team effort involving the school, parents and each
graduate from the Class of 2010 has allowed students to
achieve their personal best in their studies this year.”
“Today’s results are a testament to a great deal of hard
work and all students, their parents and teachers are to be
acknowledged for the outstanding effort these results
represent.”
The new Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) has
replaced the Tertiary Entrance Ranking in South Australia
this year.
The ATAR
is a common scale used across most Australian states to
calculate, rank and select school leavers for admission to
tertiary courses. Other selection criteria may be used
together with the ATAR, but this new national scale will
assist many of our students in the South East who apply to
interstate tertiary institutions for specific courses and
programs, as well as supporting the exciting university and
TAFE courses being provided locally for students in the
South East.
This year marks the end of the current South Australian
Certificate of Education pattern and we look forward to 2011
to the introduction of the new SACE in Year 12.
