My computer seems to hang at the 'connecting' screen?
Try using your browsers refresh button (or press the F5 key) to refresh the page.
The client seems to install ok? I can login to the initial page but I cannot start the 'Windows 7 Desktop' (My computer prompts about the 'launch.ica' file?)
Make sure you add https://remote.tenison.catholic.edu.au to the trusted sites, using the instructions in the 'How to' section of the TWC Xen Website.
I can't connect..... what steps should I try?
1) Check your internet connection.
2) Refresh the browser page (F5).
3) Check https://remote.tenison.catholic.edu.au is added to 'Trusted Sites' in Internet Explorer.
4) Use your computer login credentials at the main page.
How do I reinstall the XenDesktop client software?
1) Go to Start -> Control Panel
2) If your view settings are set as Category then under Programs select Uninstall a Program or if your view settings are set to small or large icons then select Programs and Features.
3) Once the program list has been populated find 'Citrix online plug-in - web' or Citrix Receiver if you manually installed the client and uninstall it.
4) Once the uninstall process has been completed revisit the Xen log in page and it will detect that you don't have the client on your computer and prompt to install it again. You can also manually install the client from the Citrix website.
Can I manually install the XenDesktop client or choose a different version?
1) Go to the Citrix website.
2) On the website select the client version (Windows/Mac/Linux etc..) that you want to download, then select the 'download' button/arrow next to 'Receiver' to start the download. *NOTE* There is no need to log in to the Citrix site or create an account.
3) When the client finishes downloading, run the downloaded file and follow the prompts.
4) Once the installation process is finished return to the Xen website and log in using your school username & password. Remember to check and add https://remote.tenison.catholic.edu.au to 'trusted sites'if using Internet Explorer.
What school resources can be accessed?
Whether you are using your personal laptop at school via wireless, or connecting from home, the experience is similar to using the lab computers at school. The intranet, clickview, file shares such as your home directory are all available. New applications can be added as required and printing to school printers is possible (once they are added in the session via the desktop shortcut). printing can then then be collected at school. Printing to connected home printers is also possible, but XenDesktop makes a 'best effort' using generic drivers as there are too many variances in printer model.
What devices can connect to XenDesktop?
XenDesktop's flexibilty allows connection from many devices including Windows, Mac and Linux computers, iPhones, Blackberrys and Android powered devices (phones and most tablets).
Windows Phone 7 handsets are unable to connect at this time, but will work once the software has been created by Citrix (keep checking the app market). To be able to connect to a XenDesktop you must first download the appropriate app, called 'Citrix Receiver'.
You should be able to find the app on your devices app store, and the web path (required during receiver configuration) is 'https://remote.tenison.catholic.edu.au/lp/mobile'. Check here to see what devices are supported by Xendesktop, this list is updated and shows all devices that Xendesktop is compatible with.
How do I connect an Ipad to XenDesktop? (using home wireless or 3G-TWC wireless connectivity will occur late 2012)
Download the free 'Citrix Receiver' app, from the Appstore.
Open the Citrix Reveiver application and create a new account using the web address below:
https://remote.tenison.catholic.edu.au/lp/mobile
If the verification process fails choose manual and enter a name for the account e.g. TWC Xen.
On the side menu select the account and log in using your PC credentials.
Which internet browsers are supported?
Whilst XenDesktop is formally supported by Citrix with Internet Explorer (ver 6.0 through 9.0) and Mozilla Firefox web browsers (ver 1.x through 5.x), Google Chrome and Apple's Safari both currently work as well. For best results it's recommended that you use the latest versions of either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. Click here for the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. The 'How to Videos' section provides instruction on client installation in Windows 7/Internet Explorer.
Internet/data plan requirements?
XenDesktop requires a broadband connection such as ADSL/ADSL 2+, ISDN, satellite or 3G. Internet connection usage varies depending on what you are doing. Large file transfers or watching Clickview videos is possible, but it will consume much more data than web browsing or creating standard office documents. If you have a fast broadband connection, it will increase the performance to utilise the available connection (thus providing a better user experience). It is highly recommended that users check their internet data connection plans to prevent excess charges, especially with 3G, as these usually have lower monthly data caps.
Testing has shown that watching Clickview videos over an ADSL 2+ connection (best possible experience) had an indicated 75-100 MB an hour usage, whilst working with office documents reduced this to 25-50 MB an hr.
What are the minimum computer requirements?
The Citrix Receiver will run on most modern PC's, Windows or Mac. Requirements for each PC are different. Recievers for different devices can be found here
Windows PC
- Windows XP SP2 or later with .NET (available here), Windows Vista or Windows 7
- 256MB RAM or more
- Broadband/ADSL or 3G internet connection
Mac
- OS X 10.6 (Snow leopard) or 10.7 (Lion)
- 256MB RAM or more
- Broadband/ADSL or 3G internet connection
Will my session switch between devices?
If you log onto a different computer or device while you are in a XenDesktop session, the session will switch to your new device.
Can I browse the internet on my home computer with an open XenDesktop session?
XenDesktop can be run in full screen mode or in a resizable window. In your home/local pc internet browser, just open another tab and browse the internet 'outside' of the XenDesktop session. Of course you can also browse the internet 'inside' the session as well, to access the school's intranet etc.
